Psychic Detective chapter 15

I bathed and washed my hair, and fished around in my wardrobe for something suitable to wear. I had the same problem as all women when faced with an unexpected night out -I had nothing to wear.
Eventually I decided on ‘the little black dress’, which wasn’t really little, it flowed almost to the floor, but it was beautifully cut with a full gored skirt which I felt flattered my trim figure.
I brushed my Sable coloured curls, and tried to tie my hair up, but it was so soft it wouldn’t go. So instead I wore it down onto my shoulders, the curls billowing around me like a ship in full sail. I laughed as I looked in the mirror. I didn’t mind the hair being a bit unruly, it was just so wonderful to have hair. I didn’t really matter that it wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do, as long as it was THERE.
I wondered if any girl of her age could imagine what it was like not to have hair, or at least dog chewed hair in tufts around the scabs. Ugh!! I quickly switched my mind off that subject, and onto something infinitely ore pleasant, a night at the theatre.

I was ready and waiting when the Inspector arrived at spot on seven o’clock. I looked at him in wonder. I couldn’t believe how different he looked. He was wearing a Black Tuxedo and a white scarf around his neck. He looked very jaunty., and extremely handsome. I was quite tall at 5 feet 9 inches, but he towered above me.
‘You look very smart Inspector’ I greeted him
‘Thought I might as well look the part, and you look gorgeous Emilia. What a lot of hair you have. I never realized that before, it’s wonderful’ he said admiring my hair from every angle.
‘Thank you Inspe………….’ I started to say, when he broke in.
‘Look Emilia, we cannot have a night out together with you calling me Inspector all night. How about Jeff?. I’m off duty anyway and besides, I call you Emilia and there is absolutely no reason why my colleague, yourself, should not call me by my first name’ he finished.
‘Thank you…Jeff’ I said trying out the name for the first time.
’That’s better. Now if you are ready, and you certainly look it, we’ll be off. Globe theatre here we come’ he said laughing.

We chatted all the way to the theatre, mostly discussing the case, and I told him bits and pieces that the Colonel had thrown in about India. He was fascinated. It apparently was a place he would love to visit, but had never had the opportunity.
I told him about Tibet, the high pavilions of the Himalayas, the grass plains in the centre of the mountain ranges. Of the beauty of the and also of the hardships of the people. They had very little, but never complained. They were a beautiful peoples. I told him lots of details, lots of the philosophy of the Buddhists, of the food , of the music.; but I told him nothing of why I was there or what had gone on previously. I had told no one what |I had suffered except my Psychologist, and even then it had almost had to be dragged out of me.
He listened enthralled as my narrative unfurled.
‘You are a very enlightened and cultured young lady Emilia. I had no idea you had travelled so widely. You are very lucky to have had the opportunity whilst still young, most people by the time they can afford to go to these place, are too old to enjoy them. No wonder you write such wonderful books’ he added.

We laughed together, but I realized what he had said was very true, well about the travel anyway. I had been extremely lucky, or unlucky depending on whose viewpoint you were looking from.
