Childhood Memory

The room smells of pine trees
and the sun embraces my cubical room.
The inset of my childhood securities
lie nestled in the palm of my doll’s hand.
I chuckle a bit at the inner tube hanging on my wall
that inspires my dreams of swimming the Ohio.
Staring up at the ceiling,
imagining the big beautiful mansion I dreamed of
the night before,
I walk through the gigantic double front doors
and follow the smells of fresh cinnamon toast.
Suddenly I stumble upon my very own kitchen
and with a delightfully filled stomach
I gaze out at the day so bright and inviting
and wink at my bike waiting for me patiently
under the tree in my front yard.
I am off to enjoy the day.
