For The Sake Of It

Low beams
from the warm light
intermingle aggressively with
the rays of heat
coming from beneath the marble mantel

The pale flesh seems wavy
to my heat tempered vision
and the form that it takes is hazardously molded
through the tunnels of my intoxicated mind

The liquor in my glass
has turned blue and melancholy
and is filled with echoes of haunting whispers
left trailing behind

As I sit here
I see now that sheer excitement alone has
lead me to this point
to exchange a piece of my repressed self
with this tender arrangement of
blood, flesh and bones

And now as the approaching aftermath churns
through the dimensions of my solitude
I realize I have made a serious mistake
merely
for the sake of it
