Seen here in dappled lighting along the shoreline of the Gulf waters is a small Black Mangrove tree (Avicennia germinans) along with it’s projectile-like roots which are called pneumatophores. Mangrove growth is extensive throughout coastal florida from the Keys to north Florida and provides many benefits to the states human inhabitants by offering wind and erosion protection along the many miles of coastline. The mangrove’s root system acts as a filter, trapping chemicals and other noxious substances from the water while additionally acting as a nursery for fish hatchlings and other small marine creatures. This activity greatly benefits the ecosystem and overall saltwater environment. Seashore Mangrove by HH Photography of Florida. Fine Art photography for the home or office.
