Artist's Description

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

The “Ode of Remembrance” is an ode taken from Laurence Binyon’s poem, “For the Fallen”, which was first published in The Times in September 1914.

Joseph James (J.J.) Pearce my old Dad,From 14th of May 1941 he served 1795 days in the 2/16 infantry Battalion and was discharged 12th of April 1946. Of the 1500 that enlisted into the 2/16th battalion only 143 originals survived . ANZAC Day to me is a day I honour my Dad and his fallen friends who gave there lives so that we who are left behind can live freely.
These are his old medals
