Daniel Chester French’s sculpture at the North Bridge over the Concord River, Concord, Massachusetts… now part of Minute Man National Historic Park. French was only 22 when he produced this work and it was his first full sized sculpture of a person… and he had never worked in bronze!
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.
