I guess I just don’t like “anything” else to be too much like “everything” else….so call me eccentric if you wish…but even “eccentric” is too much of the “same”….Helene Ruiz
Life is like a sheet of music, the tempo and rhythm depends on how fast or slow we decide to play that music.

Artists, painters are who I am referring too, we are also like writers, filmmakers, musicians, we too, express life in its rawest form, we too, write our own stories, and yours.

You can find prints of my works as totes, tee shirts, leggings, etc thru redbubble also. Just go through my portfolios and click on items available per image.

As an artist:
Art is my passion, religion and salvation. It is my way of surviving and coping. I paint what I feel, when I feel, There is no “correct” way to conclude the meaning behind my work as it is meant to reach inside of you and for you to decide how it relates to your soul, your life, your experiences.
I love to paint, I cannot imagine my life without it. Drawing and Painting is my true “freedom” as I can say whatever I want without restriction. My siblings all play a musical instrument and are all wonderful musicians. My instrument, however, is a paintbrush and my rhythm is from color.
The stories behind my works are many, I would love to hear how my works may relate to your stories.
As a curator:
I prefer to open doors to all people which also opens doors to education, thus helping to diminish stereotypical expectations and gives opportunity for a better understanding of the beauty of the diversity of all people and cultures. If I can create an opportunity for artists on a particular theme, I invite all creatives to participate and would know that those unfamiliar with the theme will have to research the theme, which is “learning” which is “educational” which helps to eliminate ignorance. I have learned that sometimes, when an artist of any medium is challenged in this manner, it is usually the artist who is least familiar with the theme that makes the biggest and most powerful statement which only proves that they took the time to learn and respect something other than what society or life has programmed them into thinking. I am sometimes asked by outside venues to find artists, musicians, etc of one nationality only for something they want to do, I will put the call out for them only to share opportunity to others but prefer not to be asked to do so. I prefer to open all doors to force learning and researching and reading on a topic for a better understanding and a possibility of breaking barriers that otherwise would remain. This has been and still is a big part of my mission. If we could learn and respect each other, then maybe we can work together on making the world a better place for the sake of the children and their future.
(hence a little story i remember from my grandmother: she said something like this " the coral in the sea never give up and they work together, when the old and sick die, the young and strong continue, they all work together to accomplish their mission")
Jus’ me .. jus’ sayin’…. Helene Ruiz

being asked what my favorite part of painting is and after thinking about it for a minute, and trying to paint again since these injuries, which has become extremely challenging, but as my head injury is healing I’m challenging myself even with the neck injury. Although it seems that the focusing part of my brain has been also compromised by this head injury, but still, as I approach the part of painting after the idea has been put down and basic color applied, and now I’m able to start applying Shadow and shade and giving the sense of dimension, it starts coming alive and now the subjects are becoming like familiar and new friends, and as the subjects gain this life like likeness via imagry, as I paint and Shadow them and bring them forward I talk to them in my head and each subject gets their own personality as I go along and depending on how much time I spend with each subject in my painting some become my favorites and maybe my focus and those are the ones that get the most personality. I may have a title in my head in the beginning before I even started and a vision but as I apply the dimension via shadowing sometimes it all changes because some of the subjects I put down that seemed so far back in my mind originally now become the main focus. I believe this is the part of the painting process that I love the most, to be able to bring to life the vision. It’s almost as though your going through the process of something and once the main objective for that process or focus of that process or outcome of that process finally comes about it’s like reaching a climax of some sort. Have you ever eaten something you’re not really sure how good it is until you start eating it and you realize it tastes really wonderful and then you get to that point when your taste buds are able to taste every bit of the seasoning and every part of that meal or food and you realize how satisfying it actually is and you’re so happy you tasted it in the first place? LOL I guess it’s similar to how I feel when I get to this point of bringing life to my painting or vision and how it transforms during the process. I try to savor this part of it as much as I can because it’s my favorite part and I want to enjoy every aspect of it. Bringing each subject to life, I want to study its personality and see how I want to make it stand out. Some subjects Stand Out equally amongst each other because their personalities are just that strong, While others are more in the background but necessary in the entire recipe. It’s musical to me it has rhythm, and as I get to was the end the music climaxes and the process gets more intense why you awake the finale. Does that sound crazy? LOL I guess it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I enjoy the process and it sure beats any medication supposedly there to help you unnaturally, when you can use your imagination, skill and art and put them all together and write your own prescription for life’s challenges. I don’t know but it’s difficult for me to overcome situations if I can’t paint and not having been able to paint for these several months since this injury has been really difficult. But I’ve got to get this first one out before January is done I cannot skip a month the first month of the year, also my my birth month, without creating something that will inspire me to continue creating for the rest of the year which in turn keeps me motivated and tonever give up giving life to what’s otherwise dead. Just saying! Helene Ruiz

Join me at the Juried Invitational Exhibition…

I am very excited to have my art selected, from over 35,000 works of art, to exhibit in SoJie 4. SoJie 4 takes its name from the Solo Exhibition group’s Juried Invitational Exhibition. This month is only the 4th one, ever, and 55 other artists, besides myself, are represented.

Winners of the invitational will be announced on June 30th, when a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in three categories: digital art, photography, and traditional art.

Non members, as well as members, ARE welcome to view all of the work nominated. So I hope that you will click the show banner, above, and follow the link to view my fellow exhibitors. The works are shown “gallery size” and are beautiful, seen together.

If you do not belong to the group, Solo Exhibition, you cannot participate in commenting; and joining to comment is not encouraged. But you CAN lend support by commenting in my journal, here, about the show.

THIS JOURNAL IS ALSO PART OF A WEB RING. You can also follow other artists involved, by clicking on the WEB RING BADGE below. You don’t need to be a member of Solo Exhibition to show your support, this web ring is especially for non members! Thank you!

Our Dear Mariam Muradian

Mariam passed away on 12/29/2017 after a difficult struggle with cancer. Her daughter was not given access to her account here on redbubble as they denied her even though her mom had passed. Mariam loved her daughter and spoke always about her. I had the wonderful opportunity of an amazing friendship since meeting Mariam on redbubble and her coming to stay with me in NYC for an exhibit together. …
