Mother, don’t wait

oh mother, please don’t wait for me
don’t wait for me tonight
oh mother, i have gone
i won’t be back tonight

somebody, i don’t know who
but someone threw a bomb
it did explode beside my head
and that is how i’ve gone

please do not cry and stop your tears
and you don’t have to pray
oh mother can you hear my voice
the listen what i say

i know that you have lost a son
and this time it was me
but 1000 sons have died this year
1000 times like me

please mother go and get my gun
and all the guns you see
and all the tanks and canons
throw them into the sea

and tell my brother not to shoot
or touch another gun
for i won’t live and he shan’t kill
another mother’s son

there are a million mothers
a million times in pain
take care of the next you grow
he not be killed again

my mother lives in belfast,
hanoi, jerusalem
lives in saigon and in phnom penh,
in any town you name
