Artist's Description

My yellow crested Cockatoo

Yellow crested cockatoo
came home to say hello
The pine tree’s highest spot
he’d pick, as he would always do

There’re 14 now, all in your flock
you brought them all to show
where once you lived,
the tree you loved
and chewed on all the cones

So glad that each year
you fly by,
and stop to turn your head
to screech your call from far away,
I whistle high instead

Fills me with joy
you’re never caged
no bullet brought you down
and for 100 miles around
all this is now your home

To the picture: This beautiful creation lives in Victoria, Australia. I had a yellow crested cockatoo, in a cage. A storm blew the cage over and it came back, talking from the top of a large pine tree. Many times he came alone, then 2, 3, each year more. Now it comes with 14, every time announcing the arrival with loud screeches. The offspring too pick up on the habit and it’s so good to see them free.
