Artist's Description

This pastel panting image is of a tiny little critically endangered Australian male frog guarding his very precious eggs. The frog is called the Corroboree Frog is found at altitudes above 1000metres above sea level. The male frog builds nest chambers in damp mossy areas and guards the eggs. There are only two species of Corroborree frogs, the northern and southern, and they live in the alpine areas. The Southern Corroborree frog is now found only in a 10 square kilometre section of the the Kosciuszko National Park in Australia’s Snowy Mountains area, the northern Corroborree frog inhabits an area of about 550square kilometres. You can read more about these lovely little frogs at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corroboree_frog.
The image was created by first making a black textured board and then applying both oil and soft pastel.
