heartLOOSE is the moniker for our family travels around the U.S. in a camper. there are 4 of us … Michael, Bethany, Douglas, and Fynn … plus 2 black cats. we travel in a 30 foot camper, pulled along by Matilda, our 20-year-old red and white pickup truck. we’re a motley crew with big dreams, creative bones, one mustachioed Libra (Michael), one mother superior (Bethany), one lanky book devourer (Douglas), and one nonstop inventor (Fynn).

so what’s this heartLOOSE trip really about?

“live in a camper filled with tools and books, traveling everywhere doing everything.”

that’s the quick version of the dream right there.
michael wrote it in a journal many years ago.

there are many reasons why now, but the big three are the ages of our boys and their need to see the country, the itch to find land and put down our family roots, and the craving to go and touch the people and places we grew up with (our roots), before we start building a home.

we want to fix things, build things, design things …. while connecting with and loving on people.

old friends, new friends, doesn’t matter.

trusting that our needs and the needs of those we meet will balance out in the hands of God.

no expectations of unicorns and rainbows, but real, messy, crazy-intense life. the gritty stuff. the growing-kicking-and-screaming stuff.

trusting that we’ll know where to go next, and where and when to stop.

no script, just steps. onward.

what are we selling here?
we all like to create stuff. sometimes we create art together as a family, and also individually. some of it’s related to the trip, and some is just for fun. selling it here is one of the ways we support ourselves on the road. hope you enjoy!

michael’s also a painter and sculptor in his own right, and has a Red Bubble page over here for his non-trip related work.

It was pretty chaotic, and the en…
