Artist's Description

Umm al-Jimal – Jordan

Theses arches are what’s left of the ceiling of a water cistern, in a ruined city dating back to the roman and byzantine periods (beginning of the 1rst mill. AD) in the desert between Syria and Jordan.
This area was particularly important in Antiquity, as all the caravans crossing the arabian desert to join south Arabia were originating, or ending, there.
