Water Lilies Below the Bridge

Easy to understand Monet’s love for waterlilies and the water on which they rest, and move, and bloom, in residence. Any artist is drawn to all the inherent challenges. Movement and depth of the water, cloudy or clear, tilting flowers, the play of light. Truly I think it’s the major draw, so much to consider and delve into.

I have a lovely stream of The Carmel River near me, and a slim bridge with a walkway that spans it, and I imagine much from its central arch. I know, because I want it so, I will some day have a lake within arm’s reach that is populated by black swans, white swans, heron, hummingbirds, dragonflies, and reeds, yellow and blue iris, frogs, snakes, fish, and yes…waterlilies of every hue.
