Artist's Description

Out for a day of adventure, Austin (my Grandson) and I arose early and headed East on old Route 66, destination to see the worlds largest totem pole, and to capture as many photos along the way as possible.

I had my vanilla diet coke and Austin had a big bottle of water and of course we had the hot and spicy and the plain, pig skins, beef jerky, original and the peppered, yummm…. I had my camera, and Austin had his Ipod touch with movies and songs…erm..I think he gets tired of my golden oldies…(although he knows all the words to the songs, and we sing them loud and proud…but we are never to mention that…not ever…to anyone).. so off we go as content for travel as anyone could be.

This photo was taken on Oklahoma highway Route 66, between Claremore and Catoosa, these two large steel truss bridges cross the Verdigris River.

Both bridges served original Route 66 travelers but were built more than 20 years apart. The first bridge (now the westbound bridge) was built in 1936, but as travel increased, an additional overpass was constructed in 1957, which now serves eastbound traffic.

Felix and Oscar are the names of the bridges, named by locals.
