Artist's Description

I was running out of ideas when I spotted a group of sunflowers along the roadside. It was determined several had the chance of becoming a decent photograph so they accompanied me back to the studio. Of the several shots tried this became the image of choice. I simply liked the idea that it was exercising its’ ‘authority’ by leaning into me. (Some could say bowing in submission).

The camera for this occasion was the Mamiya RZ67 II w/110mm normal lens attached. No filtering was used. The camera settings were f22 @ 4 sec.. Also used were a flood light on each side along with natural light.

The film was Ilford’s Delta-400 developed in Gordon Hutchings PMK developer in a ratio of 1:2:100 for 9 min @ 75 degrees.
