Artist's Description

This is the actual bridge that Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh played Poohsticks on in A.A. Milnes books.

The Milne’s lived beside a small stream that eventually ran into the River Medway. Their old Farmhouse lay a short distance from a wooden bridge that they needed to cross to reach the Ashdown Forest. It was on one of these visits that he and his Nanny played the game of “Poohsticks”. Christopher was not at all sure whether he invented the game or if it was his father, A.A.Milne. He recalls that his father was always coming up with new ideas for Pooh stories and that he himself was always thinking of ideas for new games. So between them Poohsticks was invented.

“And that was the beginning of the game called Poohsticks, which Pooh invented, and which he and his friends used to play on the edge of the Forest. But they played with sticks instead of fir-cones, because they were easier to mark.”
