A graduate of Long Beach State University and the University of California at Los Angeles, Gus Maier has a long history with art. Primarily a painter, he has happily worked in pottery, photography, etching, sculpture, calligraphy, graphic design, and too many experimental media to name. Whilst best known for his nudes, portraits, and depictions of rowers in his distinctive Expressionist/Fauvist style of painting, he has amassed a huge body of less recognized smaller works over the years.

In the early 2000’s, he was in the midst of a series of photographs of ice experiments, when his youngest son came to visit, exclaiming about how he had been able to get an amazing image by distorting one of Gus’ experiments with India ink and paint in Photoshop. Intrigued, he began a series of experimental paintings which continue to this day. He also purchased his own scanner and learned how to use Photoshop to manipulate his paintings ever further.
