Guntis Jansons

Laguna, Australia

I am oil painter working out of Sydney and Melbourne. My subjects vary from landscapes to figurative. My website is...

I was born in 1946. My parents were Latvian refugees from the war. We arrived in Australia in 1950 and lived in a migrant camp at Albury until we settled in Victoria where I went to school. I was influenced in my Art at an early age as
my parents had many Artist friends. The smell of oil paint was appealing. In High School I found that Art was the most
interesting subject. I decided to go to Art School and went to
R.M.I.T. Art School in Melbourne. There were some great
instructors who really opened my eyes to new possibilities.
I started my working career as a Graphic Designer and then
moved into Art Directing while maintaining an interest in painting. I had my first solo exhibition at Hogarth Galleries in
1976. The success of that prompted me to continue. My paintings are mostly in oils. They range in subject matter from landscapes to still lifes and fantasy subjects. These days I paint full time and have exhibitions when and where I can. It’s always good to get comments on my work and to see paintings go to appreciative homes.
I hope to continue painting for a long time. I now live in the country where inspiration is outside the front door every day.
