Nature photography and writing about photography travel are my main interests. / Visit www.carneypictures.com. / © All photographs in...

Photography has been my life for many years. My early photo education started in Birmingham, AL at University Hospital working as a medical photographer. My mentors were Dick Gunthorpe and Sidney Lawrence. I will always be grateful to them. Dick was the hardnosed “rules” guy and Sidney was the technician and artist…

Later I would work as a cinematographer for a local television station.

Most of my years were in the Professional Photo Lab business and again I was blessed with a terrific mentor. His name was Peter Chestnut from Toronto, Canada. The sense of confidence and knowledge he shared always made me a winner!

I have noticed that my images seem to be pretty eclectic compared to so many others on the Bubble. I enjoy so many things that I happen upon and I try to pass them on with my photography. Birds, flowers and scenics are the main three subjects I suppose!

See my website and blog at

Many of my Red Bubble pictures start as the result of a blog project.

I am a long time user of Nikon equipment. Currently using
D7000
D200
Nikkor 70-300
Sigma 50-500
Sigma 28-85
Tamron 10-24

Happy Easter and Thanks for the Sale!

I must thank Mischa for the sale of greeting cards featuring the image of Big Bird in the Swamp! Hope the use of these cards bring joy to the person who receives them! / Now I will be ordering my new yacht that I intend to float down to Australia and visit with all my Red Bubble friends there! LOL! Happy Easter to all you on the Bubble!

Hoot Owl criticism...

First time I suppose for me to offend anyone here on the bubble. Not really planning on an apology however. As a Southern person here in the USA I have rather harmlessly, but perhaps thoughtlessly, referred to most owls as a “hoot owl” most of my long life. The truth is I am 70 years old and saw my first one “live” while visiting Northwest Trek in Washington this past Augu…

Old granddad and I really thank you...

While I was away finally getting to shoot animals in Florida it seems someone bought a nice print of Old Granddad, the pelican image I get so many comments about. It really pleases me that an image of mine sold on this venue. The truth is I like the friends I have come to “know” here and really feel at home. Thank you, whoever bought it, for the recognition and I hope you enjoy it for…

Basics We Must All Consider with Photography

Photography requires discipline for sure. It is like anything in life that you wish to do well, You must practice! The desire to excel at something requires that you inquire from experienced senior photographers as in my scenario and hopefully they will share as I am doing now. You will find no revelations in this writing but merely an enforcement of the things I was taught starting nearly 50 yea…
