Artist's Description

In 1912, a coach robbery took place on Pilgram’s Hill in South Africa and the highwayman Tom Dennison was caught and sentenced to 5 years in prison. After his release, Tom returned to Pilgram’s Rest and a few years later opened the Highwayman’s Garage which is still in business there today. The name caused much amusement to the residents of Pilgram’s Rest but showed the good humour of the “Highwayman”.
