Locomotive 1009 is the only remaining Beyer Garatt in Queensland and is at the Railway Workshop Museum at Ipswich. Built in 1950 by Beyer, Peacock of Manchester, England, the 51 wheeled train weighs 137 tons and carries 6 tons of coal and 3800 gallons of water. Until 1969, it was used mainly in central Queensland and was sometimes seen pulling the “Midlander” west from Rockhampton and hauling the coal trains.
