Artist's Description

The Common Pleas Courthouse was completed in 1854 and sits on top of a hill, overlooking downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri and the mighty Mississippi River. It played a big part in Missouri history, from American Indian council meetings to the Civil War. The dungeon in the Courthouse was used to jail southern sympathizers and perhaps Confederate soldiers.
