Artist's Description

This piece of ice caught my eye whilst walking along the shores of Lochindorb (a loch high on the Dava Moor in the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland) one winters morning. There was a shelf of sheet ice that was leaving the shore which disappeared under the lochs waters with this chunk of ice just sitting there almost floating there. The sun was shining brightly from the left and its light was being focused through the ice to the point on the right just like a diamond.

I live in the most wonderful, diverse, beautiful, awe-inspiring country. These gems in the landscape appear to me now and again. Nature can be so beautiful and benign at times which can produce such wonderous sights. I just love and am fascinated by how water interacts with the landscape in all its guises – that’s why I like this image so much.

I used the white balance on the camera to cool the image down to create this blue effect. Hope you like it.
