Artist's Description

‘El Padron de Casa’ (literally ‘the Householder’) is the affectionate name given by the inhabitants of Venice to St Mark’s campanile, one of the most representative symbols of the city.

This 98m-high bell tower, located in the square of the same name just in front of the Basilica, may have formerly been a lookout post or even a lighthouse before it collapsed from a lightning strike in 1902. The reconstruction was completed in 1912.

This photo belongs to a series dedicated to the city of Venice, where I did a trip in 2007 during the Carnival period.
