After over ten years of working for the Brisbane Courier-Mail, Sunday Mail, APN News, I now juggle between shooting for and editing...

Continued break from shooting, but :)

Saving for my new camera hit a snag when my car decided it would need new brakes and maybe a new clutch. At the very least, I’ve had to aim for a D300 instead of the Nikon D3 that I really want.

On the upside, whilst being without camera I have been working with APN Newspaper’s creative ad design department where I’ve been riding a very steep learning curve and seeing many ways in which I can improve my photography for the purposes of gaining more advertising work (once the new camera is bought) and also learning a lot about ad design, composition of ads and how different photos work or sometimes don’t work in the advertising world, and I have had to learn how to use Adobe Indesign in a hurry as well.

Not sure how long I will be working in this new role but the team there absolutely rock, as they are all really easy going designers, each an artists in their own rights outside of the advertising gig and yet there are no huge egos to have to deal with so it’s smooth sailing in there.

I will have to borrow a camera for Feb 23rd when I’ve scored a gig taking pics for my fav singer Jeff Martin (second tour in a row now). He’s using my shots on his website and it’s unpaid but he’s always really good to work with in terms of being so down to earth and in that he’s a great photographic subject. Last gig I was perched up on the balcony at the Tivoli in Brisbane for his gig, shooting a 300mmF2.8 at crazy 1/30th shutter speeds due to low light so this time I hope to get in close with the 30mmF1.4 and improve the access throughout the gig. (publicist promised a lot better access so it should be fun) This gig will be at Coolangatta – no idea at all what the venue is like.
