The Girl On The Wall

The girl on the wall watches the things we do
And doesn’t flinch at the unromantic parts
She keeps her eyes wide open
And sees possibilities I am afraid to see

Long after dark comes the tap on my picture window
You want in but are afraid of what your feelings mean
As we make love on that moonbright summer night
I am stunned when the sun comes up
And someone new is there
But the girl on the wall watched it all

The girl on the wall keeps my secret
For she has become a trusted friend
She knows I’m hiding a truth you won’t want to see
I cannot hide it forever, this new life inside of me
My secret joy, my tender fantasy
Which your dark brooding shame will turn to a nightmare

I sit on the edge of the bed and watch her watching me
She knows what I think I have to do, how much I’ll hate you, too
I can’t hide much from the girl on the wall
With her eyes wide open
There is nothing she is afraid to see.
