morningside

if i could look into your eyes once more,
i’d remember all i saw there…

i saw sunrises of honey blush and rose
such hopeful beauty
held close in the softest gold
i saw sunsets of crimson and cinnamon
giving way to violet and indigo
the deepening shadows
holding the promise of warmth
bringing impulsive emotions
i could not control

i touched you and felt
the power of your desire for me
white heat at midnight
scent of purple jasmine filling the air
and when my body shuddered
under your caress
i saw the blue fire of my fledgling desire

and in the heat of the passion
when together
we created a separate soul
that flew for too few days
i felt the searing heat
the wild dark pain
until my blood mingled
with hers and faded to rust
the dusky brown of spilled innocence
gone now

through the night the colors grew and changed
reality and illusion skipping around
like rocks across golden water
i will surrender to my loss
yet protect the halcyon memories
of our ivy girl
