Artist's Description

The Trillium is a wildflower found blossoming across the forest floor in early spring, their bloom lasts around two weeks. Blooming early it takes advantage of the lack of a full leafy canopy in the forest limbs above and its leaves can absorb sunlight that will no longer make it to the forest floor a few weeks from now.

For me this time of year the forest is like a cathedral, the long pier like trunks of the trees are easily seen against the sky stretching upwards, their limbs creating vaulted arches. Light comes in through the newly leafing trees as if this “ceiling” was made from illuminated stained glass, casting a remarkable light on the forest.

The arrival of the beautiful Trillium also announces that its time for hunting the highly sought after morel mushroom.
