The Eyes In The Darkness

I close my eyes, they flicker for a second but then the glue forms that keeps them tightly closed. I stare deep into the darkness before me and then I see it, I see that long bristly fur, those sharp gleaming teeth, and those searing yellow eyes staring at me apperaing more and more through the darkness. It takes some slow steps forward, so silent, its feet hardly touch the ground. Now I can see more, more fur making sharp pointy ears, strong muscular legs and razor sharp claws. It just keeps stalking silently forward, staring at me through the darkness, its yellow eyes so mesmerizing and hypnotising drawing me closer and closer. I see its wet shiny nose and its mouth changes into a grizzle. It just keeps leering at me through the dark making me freeze and unable to move. I just stand there like a frozen clock, as my arms and legs start to tremble , shaking like curtains on a windy day. Frozen in time, frozen in space, the clock is still not moving but yet the wolf still stalks forward, ever so slowly and silently. Thoughts go through my head, question after question, am I its prey? Is it going to maul me? Is it friendly? The answers I hear are blank, I have to move! I have to run away! My feet are glued to the ground, I am trapped, there is no where to go.

Then I blink for a second and I hear it, the dirt beneath its feet, the sharp claws scraping at it, I look up in fear and then I see it. Its legs leaping into the air, it’s bounding towards me, I can nearly see the whole wolf now, its fur seeming even more jagged. Just one more leap and it’s got me. Its feet take one last leap off the ground, bounding so high in the air that it’s above me. Then suddenly gravity assumes its role and starts to pull it down, its paws land on my neck knocking me to the ground with a huge force, I hit my head but I can’t feel it, my body and mind are still frozen. I feel its sharp teeth scratch my face, this is it I tell myself, this wolf is going to rip me apart. I close my eyes in fear, waiting for the inevitable to happen.

A few seconds pass and still nothing happens, I slowly open my eyes, and realise I’m back in my room, snuggled up in my bed, the darkness still surrounds me but I see no wolf anymore, it just vanished into thin air, I give myself a good shake, woah! That was a weird dream I say to myself, and I never did get to find out wether the wolf was friendly or not. Confused by what the dream meant I lay in my bed staring up at the dark ceiling trying to find an explanation, a meaning, an answer. Before I find one my eyes start to feel heavier and heavier, until they finally close and I drift off slowly to dream world once again.
