Artist's Description

So, why did I paint this picture of a woman reclining on a languid afternoon in June?

Well, Im looking for something. Not the perfect woman, although thats always nice.

I found myself looking for a certain shade of blue, the kind that you sometimes see in striped white pillows. The kind that reflects from those thick army style grey blankets that scratch against soft skin but keep you warm.

There’s a story about getting out of bed, and getting in thats sometimes complicated – the who the when the how the why.

Then there’s the story of cool mornings of staying in bed and reading until one of us breaks the embargo and makes coffee for the other.. of deferred breakfasts.

I painted this in Port Melbourne, in oils : they are somehow both more romantic and sturdy. I guess I’ll know this week whether we think its finished, and then Ill sign and varnish.

Id like to sell this, if you think of a figure you’d be happy to pay, send me an email. Its always nice to say you’ve got an original first hand from the artist, and I will be appreciative, as it lets me continue to make good pictures and continue the search for that elusive painting that says what I need to say.

enjoy,

gord.
