time

a single silver string

you watch it twirl
rolling the thread
between your shifting fingers
back and forth

freeing the fibers
shredding the strands
dulling the shine

back and forth
until all you have
is a pile of dust

and with just one breath
the silver specks scatter
dancing in the sunlight
