Artist's Description

This is a new born Wax-Like Hygrophorus (Hygrocybe cerecea), I know it’s new borne, as I was at this location yesterday without my camera and only saw the mature version, (which will be the next upload).

It was only 1 inch high and vividly coloured, totally yellow except for the fine white, downy blotches on it’s stem.
It’s meant to be edible, but not for me.

My setup for the really low fungi is as follows,
A large bean bag (9 ins square with a waterproof bottom), on this is placed a smaller bean bag, with smaller beans, now the camera can be moulded to the required viewpoint, calculate the exposure and depth of field, reflect light with gold or silver foil if desired.

Use mirror lock up on camera to avoid shake, use timer or remote release to fire the shutter.

The downside is that you have to lay on the forest floor to check the focusing, (Unless you have a neck like a giraffe, afraid I don’t, so it’s down and dirty for me.)

Hope this helps if you want to take your own fungi shots.

Best wishes, Nick
