I’m a vagabond visual artist roaming the globe to document wild, far-flung encounters.

Though I maintain no permanent residence, I frequently use Bangkok as a hub where I keep a couple of bags stored at a hotel. I travel lightly with a MacBookPro and a Sony a7R II camera with four lenses plus a GoPro Hero 5. My photographs have been published more than 100,000 times in most of the world’s leading travel publications, including National Geographic and Conde Nast Traveler. I’m the original founder of the Stock Artist’s Alliance, a trade association that represented photographers worldwide and I’m also active in the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a lay Buddhist organization dedicated to peace, culture and education.

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) gave me recognition as one of their chosen photographers for “ASMP Best of 2012”:https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q...

Recent awards include:

2015 Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) Silver Medal: Professional – Portrait/Culture Category

2015 Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) Bronze Medal: Professional – Portrait/Culture Category

2014 American Aperture Award (AX3) First Place: “Professional – Fashion Category”

Additionally, I have three published books:

The Journey from Kamakura is a poignant (and almost true) love story novel about a travel photographer who roams the globe in search of the ultimate experiences life has to offer. Along the way he becomes wildly successful and soon blows through a million dollars. Then in Bangkok he succumbs to self-destructive tendencies that propel him into an excruciating pit of suffering. Eventually he encounters a mysterious woman who re-ignites in him the determination to grapple with his weaknesses and who leads him toward revelations no photograph could every portray. In 2004 this novel won the silver category for “Best First Book / Fiction” in the USA at the Benjamin Franklin Awards.

Penis Gourds and Moscow Muggings is a non-fiction compilation of humorous episodes that celebrate cultural differences I encountered during marathon journeys that looped me around the globe several times.

Thrill Me Rajasthan is a fine art coffee table book with images that boldly use color within tight compositions to depict a serene, almost cosmic order in the otherwise wonderful chaos that is everyday life in India.

Papuan Tribal Penis Gourds

The traditional tribal penis gourd (also known as a “koteka” or “horim” or “phallocrypt”) is worn by Papuan tribesmen to hide their family jewels, coins and bills.
