On a moody, mercurial fall day in the San Juan Mountains, a changing of the seasons was on full display in this view looking south toward the Sneffels Range. I loved how the glorious colors before me contrasted with the gray mountain monochrome nearby.
This image was captured from Ouray County Road 7 (East Dallas Creek Road) near Ridgway, Colorado. That’s Mount Sneffels (14,150 ft / 4,313 m) on the far left, the crown jewel in these parts, and reigning monarch of the San Juans. To the right, Gilpin Peak, the Block Tops, and Dallas Peak complete what is a powerful scene in any season.
