Word-A-Day....HALCYON

HALCYON \HAL-see-uhn\, noun:(Greek)

1. A kingfisher.

2. A mythical bird, identified with the kingfisher, that was fabled to nest at sea about the time of the winter solstice and to calm the waves during incubation.

adjective:

1. Calm; quiet; peaceful; undisturbed; happy; as, “deep, halcyon repose.”

2. Marked by peace and prosperity; as, “halcyon years.”

This word has multiple descriptions from a present bird to one of mystical grounds. Also an adjextive for calm quiet and peace. I know I could use the later description of this word at times.

I went in search of an image to use and here it is…..the artist is Shannon Beauford make sure to check out all of her work.
