Artist's Description

The Mendocino National Forest is located in the Coastal Mountain Range in northwestern California and comprises 913,306 acres. It is the only national forest in the state of California without a major paved road entering it.
The forest includes four wilderness areas: Sanhedrin Wilderness, Snow Mountain Wilderness, Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness, and Yuki Wilderness.
Lake Pillsbury is the largest recreational lake in the forest at 2,280 acres and offers boat ramps, camping and resorts. Letts Lake, southeast of Lake Pillsbury is 35 acres in size and has hiking trails, campgrounds and is close to trailheads into Snow Mountain Wilderness.
Thousands of years before pioneer explorers from the eastern United States entered the area, five Native American peoples lived off its bounty – the Yuki, Nomlaki Wintu, Patwin Wintu, Eastern Pomo, and Northeastern Pomo.
Mendocino National Forest is located in the national forest’s Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5).
