A Sensual Assault

Silver reflections. Blinding, mesmerising.
The high waterfall majestically reigns
over the scene below; powerful, roaring,
commanding, deafening – standing proud above
the white frothy base. Energy absorbed,
the river meanders gleefully on its way,
wrapping well worn rocks in its crystal embrace
before falling into the stillness of deep
mysterious pools. Sensing wet chilling
sting of spray on face and woody whiffs of aromatic pine,
I swoop downwards to claim my prey.
Rough scales rasping tongue, tantalisingly
tempting the taste buds complete the assault
on all five senses as I soar heavenwards,
fish firmly in beak, till the lively river
is but a thin blue line dissecting the Earth,
transforming the scene to one of a state
devoid of emotion, life, love and laughter.

Artist's Description

This poem was inspired by a waterfall near Aberfoyle in Scotland. I wanted to highlight how drastically things can change given a different perspective. ‘The thin blue line’ is a colloquial term for the police.
