Statue and Clock Tower in Seaham, County Durham, North East England. Taken with a Canon SX20 IS.

Statue to Charles Stewart Vane-Tempest Stewart, 6th Marquess of Londonderry K.G., G.C.V.O. (1852-1915); 1915 by John Tweed. A sandstone plinth and pedestal, and standing bronze figure. A square plinth on moulded stone base supports a pedestal with sloping sides and moulded cornice. Pedestal bears inscription: “This statue is placed here by his son and his daughter, amongst those whom he loved so well, and whose welfare and happiness were to him the principle objects of his life”. A slightly over life-size figure with sword and scroll, he wears the cloak of the Order of the Garter.

It stands in front of the former offices of Lord Londonderry’s industrial companies in Seaham, County Durham, until recently in use as a Police station. The building is a mixture of classical and French design; the architect is unknown but the date must lie between 1857 and 1861. This has now been renovated and is apartments.
