This past May, 2015, I was a passenger on a cruise tha transited the Panama Canal and, in the course of our voyage, stopped at several ports of call including one at Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala. From Puerto Quetzal, I went on a shore excursion to Antigua, Guatemala, which turned out to be the most interesting town we visited during the entire cruise. The excursion included a stop for lunch in Antigua at the Casa Santo Domingo Hotel. This 5 star hotel, which boasts every modern amenity, is built around and incorporates the ruins of a several hundred year old monastery. In this photo, which I took with my Nikon D5300, we see what remains of one of the gates of the old structure along with modern details and flowering plants.
