Georgina Friend

Brisbane, Australia

In May 2013, I made a career decision to take a step back from photography and put my energy into a commercial arts qualification...

I was born in the tropical jungles of Papua New Guinea. So I am in every sense, a true earthy Virgo.
I have travelled the ends of the earth for inspiration, and my camera has been a constant companion for the last 16 years. Photography is first and foremost my real passion, but I willingly throw my hand at anything that allows me to be creative. My favourite subjects to capture are the Indigenous people from Papua New Guinea, South East- Asia and Northern Australia. The nature element of my photography focuses on botanicals & underwater imagery, with particular emphasis on orchids, nudibranchs, sea stars, flatworms and the smaller creatures that often go unnoticed.
All time favourite photographers include Michael Aw, Susan Turner; Eric Lafforgue, Steve Parish.

I still have a preference to shoot on 35mm film but I am slowly embracing digital technology. Equipment in my possession include Canon EOS 300N SLR, CANON 7 DSLR, Manfrotto 190 XPRO 804 C2 tripod, CANON G12 for underwater photography; and a wide variety of lenses. Some people invest in property, share market or vintage wine. I prefer to invest in equipment and adventures that allow me to enjoy every experience that the timeless art of photography has to offer.
