Artist's Description

Karajini National Park is fabled through Western Australia and, despite it’s great distance from anywhere, gets a surprisingly large number of visitors every year. Some come in rented campervans, some pull their own caravans and some – like us on this occasion – come by coach. I was cursing my crook back but, regardless of that, was still able to get down into the gorges, albeit with a considerable amount of help from my fellow passengers. We saw several different gorges that day and I just wish I could remember all their names – sorry about that.
I should add that Karajini is in the tropical Pilbara region of Western Australia’s north west – an area that is known mostly for iron ore mining and for the number of millionaires that have been made from it.
We were on an 11 day coach tour from Broome to Perth, in the course of which we visited many places which have just been names to me over past years but which are now permanently alive in my memory.
