Artist's Description

One or two people have asked me to explain the reason for using a filter on the lens of a camera. I didn’t know HOW to explain it so I thought if I took three photos – one with no filter, one with a cp (circular polariser) and a third with an nd8 (neutral density x8) that might explain it better than any words.
So here you go. These shots were taken in our front garden. The camera (Sony DSC R1) was mounted on a Sony tripod with the shutter operated by a switch on the tripod handle. Aperture was set to f8 and shutter speed to 1/320 second – the same for every shot.
The results speak for themselves but you really need to go to full screen to fully appreciate them. Normally I would use an nd4 instead of the nd8 as I feel it gives a truer colour rendition.
