Artist's Description

Mt Warning is in the far north of New South Wales, almost on the border with Queensland. It is a volcanic plug – a remnant of the far off times when this whole region was a mass of volcanoes. It came by it’s name when Captain Cook was charting the coast in the late 1700’s – he decided that it was the perfect warning signal to future mariners that they were approaching the dangerous waters of what we now know to be the Great Barrier Reef.
We managed to climb part way up it on this visit in 1987 and were rewarded by the sounds of a Lyre bird imitating several of the other birds in the same forest area.
This is Anne-Marie’s destination after her epic drive through the deserts from one side of Australia to the other in a few weeks time.
