Artist's Description

Salmon Beach is on the fringe of the D’Entrecasteaux National Park in the far south of Western Australia some 400+ kms from Perth. We see it on a calm day but what few locals there are tell us that when the Southern Ocean is angry it makes a VERY impressive sight. The nearest services of any kind (including electricity) are about 40 kms away in the small country town of Northcliffe, through which passes the main connecting road between Pemberton and Walpole. The road from Northcliffe to Salmon Beach is all sealed now but is not a through road so you have got to WANT to come here – you wont just happen to pass through it!! As a result it doesn’t attract a lot of visitors and with luck could remain in it’s present pristine condition for many years to come.
The sand on this beach is wonderfully firm and it is almost impossible NOT to walk right up as far as those distant rocks. And then, of course, there is another long beach walk in the other direction. This shot was taken by turning round after taking my Photographer at Work shot which I recently posted in here
