Artist's Description

This unique 12 ton steam engine was built by Ransome Sims and Jefferies in Ipswich, England and was shipped out to Western Australia where it began it’s life clearing land for the State Government.
Later it was bought by the Shepherdson family and went into service in 1915 hauling logs. As a traction machine in was unsuitable in the heavy wet soils of the south west forests so it served inside the sawmill in a stationary capacity.
When in 1921 Shepherdsons put down rail lines to the Wilga sawmill, “Snorting Liz” was converted to wheels for rails.
