Artist's Description

There are several inlets off the Southern Ocean on the south coast of Western Australia. This one is at Walpole, known far and wide for it’s tree top walk. We were enjoying a morning cruise (you can just make out the flat top of the boat) and this is where we stopped for morning tea at a small private jetty. The area where we are moored is all wilderness with no habitation, despite being barely half a kilometer from the ocean. As a matter of interest the letters UP which end a lot of Western Australia’s place names is an Aboriginal term meaning place of. In this instance the townsite is NORNALUP or Place of the Norn – the Norn being a black snake!!
