Artist's Description

In the fall of 1953 I was operating a survey camp on the Fort George River, province of Quebec, Canada. The river (now called the Le Grande) drained a huge part of the hinterland and emptied into Hudson Bay just a mile or two from where this photo was taken. Normally we traveled into the bush by using a Canso amphibian, but that year the Royal Canadian Air Force took delivery of the first Dehaviland Otters, a fabulous plane that had an amazing ability to land and take off from very small areas of water. This was the first one that we saw, and it was a love affair at first sight. I flew a great many miles in this particular one, and loved every minute of it.

October, as near as I can remember, 1953
Exakta Varex 35mm. SLR, 50mm. F.2,0 Biotar lens, Kodachrome ASA10 film.

Scanned in 2004 with a Canoscan 4000US scanner.
