Artist's Description
I must say I had a fascination with this little old cabin near Mountain View, in south-west Alberta, Canada, just a few miles from where the prairies meet the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It looks like it’s survived a lot of hard times, but still carries on.I’m guessing, but I’m pretty sure it would date from at least 1900 or maybe older. In the background is Chief Mountain, down across the border in Montana, USA.

Oh yes, it sure would! I think I prefer the foothill/prairie transition area, you get such a variety of scenery in just a few miles. Glad you liked it:)
I guess hard times made the folks who owned these places move on, which is too bad. I am not sure I would trust that ladder to hold me, or the roof once I got to the top :-)) Love Chief Mtn in the background George
We both thought it would be quite a temptation to look into buying one of those old homesteads and build a place..the views were so great. Even in winter I imagine it would be quite spectacular. And I wouldn’t trust that roof or ladder myself!
probably just someone next door would know, likely they are still family land. At least that’s what we find here in Manitoba, Fred quite often asks if we can go in and photograph, and this guy know what guy and on it goes. Next time eh?
NIce going … I’m sure the ladder was left for the next guy.

Good morning Mike.. and thank you. I think Chief Mtn. is one of the most spectacular ones I’ve seen, it’s a bit aloof from the others and makes it more imposing. Yes, I’d love to spend a lot of time looking at that view. 4 days wasn’t enough!

Hi Blair..yes, I think it must be back around 100 years at least. The rafters are pretty well sagged down, though the shingles may have been replaced at one time, they look a little more recent. I loved the site and the view they had in every direction!
