Artist's Description

All of the beaches on west coast of Vancouver Island have huge accumulations of flotsam and jetsam in the form of logs and other debris from the forestry industries farther up the coast. April 25, 2009, we went for a walk on Whiffin Spit, which is a long neck of beach in the village of Sooke, a few miles west of Victoria. The spit separates the harbour (Sooke Basin) from the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which in turn separates Canada and the USA out to the open Pacific Ocean. We came upon this whimsical manor house which someone had taken the time and effort to construct(?) out of a few logs on the beach.
There was room to get inside and on a nice day was probably a great spot for a picnic. However, the roof leaked. A lot.
Taken with a Fuji S100FS camera.
