In one of the many gardens found within Beacon Hill Park, in the south end of Victoria, Vancouver Island, I came across a collection of these red poppies. I didn’t have my tripod with me, so tried some hand-held shots and I was rather pleased with this one.
Victoria is known as the “City of Gardens”.The park is a great place for flower photos, and is only a short walk from downtown. Or a ride by taxi, bus, bike, scooter or even a horse-drawn carriage.
The park is 200 acres and was established as a park in 1882, and is the biggest and most spectacular of the City’s park system. It was named after a pair of beacon masts which were placed in such a way that incoming ships could use them as navigation points to enter the Inner Harbour, and also avoid a treacherous rock ledge just offshore.
